Choosing a memorial to honor a loved one can feel overwhelming. We’re here to guide you through the process every step of the way. Together, we can create something beautiful that honors the life of your unique loved one.
These are some of the most common questions we receive. If you have additional questions or are ready to schedule your appointment, we’d love to hear from you. Please call us at (317) 483-3633 or email info@mooresvillemonuments.com.
Why should I purchase a marker or monument?
A marker or monument does more than identify a final resting place. It provides a space for family and friends to pay respect, grieve, and remember their loved one for years to come. It can become a sacred space to gather on holidays and special occasions. A carefully crafted memorial lasts for generations, allowing future family members to find a record of their genealogy. Cemeteries play an important role in the history of our community and allow us to honor those who have gone before us.
What is the difference between a marker and a monument?
A marker sits flush with the ground or slightly elevated off the ground. We offer flat markers which are completely flush, or bevel markers, sometimes called pillow markers, which are lightly slanted. We also have larger slanted markers. A monument is wider and taller. We offer a variety of upright monuments as well as specially shaped monuments. Special shapes include teardrop, crosses, hearts, benches, and many other custom options.
What design options are available?
Every monument we create is unique. Beyond the style of your memorial, you can choose from stone shades of gray, black, pink, red, brown, blue and green granite. Memorials can include artwork or symbols that are meaningful to you, or porcelain or laser-etched photos. We have a sample yard of monuments at our facility as well as pictures of monuments we have created. We know there are a lot of options, and we’ll walk you through them. We use a state-of-the-art computer program to create your design with you in our office, so you’ll leave knowing exactly what your memorial will look like.
How do you design my marker or monument? Can I view the design in advance?
At your appointment, after reviewing some of our samples with you and discussing your preferences and budget, we use our state-of-the-art computer program to generate your stone together. Our conference room includes monitors for you to view the work in progress, allowing us to make changes together to achieve your desired memorial. If you have a more complex design in mind, we also have a team of designers and can allow them to produce a proof for your approval at a later date.
From start to finish, how long does it take for a marker or monument to be created and installed at the cemetery?
Although this process can vary based upon the color and type of stone used, how elaborate the memorial is, and the season, typically a marker or monument is installed 12 to 14 weeks after the order is placed. Some of the rare stone colors are procured from outside the United States and can take up to six months to receive. Due to current COVID-19 travel restrictions and shortages, installation times may be affected. We can give you an estimate of the installation timeframe after your design is finalized.
How much does a marker or monument cost?
The cost of a monument is dependent upon the material used, the style and shape of the monument, color, design choices, and size. The most affordable single, gray granite flat marker can be purchased for as little as $450 plus the tax and foundation charge. We encourage you to share your budget and preferences, and we we’ll work with you to create something beautiful in your price range.
What cemeteries do you serve? Can you also help obtain a plot in a cemetery?
We most often install monuments in central Indiana. However, we have traveled to and can work with cemeteries throughout the state of Indiana. A delivery fee may be incurred outside the central Indiana area. If you do not have a cemetery plot, we can provide contact information for the cemetery of your choice and you may reach out to purchase a plot from them directly.
What payment forms do you accept?
We accept cash, check or credit cards. Payment is due once your design is finalized and you are ready to order your memorial.
Do you offer companion monuments? Can dates for a companion be added a later time?
We offer single monuments and companion monuments. A companion monument is a larger size and includes space for the name, date of birth and date of death for a second individual such as a spouse or child. Most companion stones are purchased after the passing of one individual and will include the name and date of birth of the second individual. The date of death can be added at any time for a small fee.
Can I make a virtual appointment if I live far away or am unable to attend an in-person appointment?
We certainly understand that distance can be a factor, if family members live several towns or even states away. We also know that due to mobility or other concerns, a virtual appointment may be preferred. We are happy to work with you via phone and email if needed to create your memorial.
